EPISODE 05: Hacking Your Movement and Breath for Peak Performance

EPISODE 05: Aaron Alexander

There are a lot of kinds of “hard” in life and we all know this. Like having an injury is hard, but training for a strong body is hard too. Only that a strong body is something positive and beneficial. The point that I am driving here is that there’s no easy way to achieve what we dream for so we need to be wise in choosing our own “hard”.

In this episode, my guest is a very dear friend who I know was able to make the right choices after going through the bad ones. He changed so many things about his life and he is now inspiring many people to do the same. How did he achieve that level of mindset? Join us to know more.

Show notes

00:00 - 05:00

Insecurities

Dr. V: “ tell me what that did to your body. And, and, and how you discovered a new way of moving and being and now the message you’re sharing with the world”

Aaron Alexander: “ just injuries and you know, banging your head against the wall enough times. So you expect to get a different result you never do. And so, most of the transitions in my personal reality, which I’d imagine most people would share that sentiment have come from being forced to change through pain or injury, or just I have no other option, you know, so I can’t I can’t play this path out anymore. So I’m forced to go the directions.”

05:00 - 15:00

Bio Energetic State

Dr. V: “So I wanted to bring you on as a movement expert to just talk a little bit about movement and how it is connected with our emotions and our mental states. But we could tackle that, I’ll leave that open ended first. And I’ll ask more specific questions as we go.”

Aaron Alexander: “So all of those topics are all they are all integrated, yes, successfully, is that where it says if your relationships are off, that’s going to affect their level of stress and your energy levels and your will to want to do anything meaningful from a movement perspective. You know, so that’s like, and it’s gonna, then all of a sudden, you don’t sleep so well, the next day, you’re craving sugar, and now your diet starts off, and this really kind of disinclined towards, towards towards any kind of health or longevity, you kind of start off in a bad footing.”

15:00 - 25:00

Pro Tips

Dr. V: “So for the, for the high performer there, that that’s out there right now, who is, you know, probably got a good amount of chronic stress every day, but potentially, you know, at their desk and sitting every day, what are some practical and tangible things that you can do I know, you’ve talked about, you know, some breath work, and maybe how to use your gaze, and maybe some movement type things that they can incorporate, and we could go over some of those..”

Aaron Alexander: “ so the first thing that would be would be taking a postural audit of yourself throughout the day. And, you know, maybe just take a picture of yourself and be like, when you’re looking at yourself in the mirror, like, if I were describing the, the, the emotion of this body, what would it be, you know, if your shoulders are collapse forward, and your spines, hyperchaotic, you know, forward head posture and all that stuff, there’s a sensation of collapse, you might be like, Oh, that’s like a, you know, more of like a depressed body…”

25:00 - 33:56

Self awareness

Dr. V: “So gaze, breath, any movement techniques that they should be taking on during the day one or two exercises that might help with functional movement or flexibility or reduce pain?”

Aaron Alexander: “ From a a structural integration perspective, ideally, you’d be able to get a plumb line from your lateral malleolar lie or your ankle joints, up by your knee up through the side of the hip, up through the shoulder and up through the ears, you’d be able to see a line down through that. It’s a little off funny, whatever. No worries is fine. Everybody’s You know, you’re a snowflake, it’s all good.”
