EPISODE 16: Finding Your Community Through Purpose

Episode 16: Mike Sherbakov

I always tell people how happy I am that I finally got to live my purpose. I knew I wasn’t doing it until very recently. I am so grateful for my pivotal moment that I always want to be reminded of it, and I want to share it with as many to inspire others to take their pivot, too.

But I didn’t know it was the AHA moment at the time. Nobody did, I guess!

It can be spontaneous.
It can be an ordinary day.
It can be a moment of breakdown.

But indeed, it’s that one moment when you actually felt right and authentic.

For Mike Sherbakov, CEO of Greatness Collective, these moments are those when questions won’t keep him still. When curiosity and intuition tell him something else is waiting for him.

For me, I had to rediscover my WHY in the midst of a seemingly successful medical career, comfortable life, and secured future.

And by “why”, I mean the reason that I get up every morning, the reason I make the choices I make, the reason I can stand in the face of incredible odds and still be confident I am in the right place… doing the right thing.

Asking this question unpacks for you an often perceived as vague or profound concept of (life) purpose. Because we tend to think that purpose has to be big or grand. But purpose is practical. It is actionable. It is implementable. Purpose is the intersection of THREE THINGS: PASSIONS (things you’re curious about, you find joy in and make you come alive), STRENGTHS or experiences (things you’re good at), and CONNECTION.

And these things are not coincidences. It’s our blueprint for living a full life. Finding your why helps you grow from the inside out. And it manifests in every aspect of yourself—physical body, mind, and spirit. Finding your why and living your purpose naturally gravitates you to a community that you can resonate with, giving you a sense of solidarity and security when the storms of life come to beat down your door.

You’d probably hear this from many stories: the one big regret people have in their deathbed is wishing they had the courage to live a life true to themselves, not the life others expected of them.

But Mike and I are telling you: YOU are the only thing that could be keeping you from living your purpose. So it’s nowhere else but in your hands how you turn a possibly regretful moment into opportunities.

02:14

What shaped and defined Mike Sherbakov: I’ve always been like a bit of a contradiction. I’ve always been the person who asks WHY. And that was seen then as rebellious.

08:28

Many people don’t have the courage to follow what they intuitively feel in their hearts. Many would follow the status quo.

09:22

I was always the one that asked the questions. Even about the things that I believe in and value. Am I doing these things from a place of purpose?

11:16

One big regret that people have: I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. There is only one thing that’s stopping people from living their purpose: YOU.

16:52

I believe that everyone is here for something great. Everyone has something that they want to pursue. Everyone wants to live a more meaningful life. It can be totally scary, but if you start asking the questions early, the earlier you get the confidence in the uncertainty of doing those things.

19:06

It’s never too late to be who you might have been. You’re never too late to pivot. And when you do, you can take all the experience and the knowledge you’ve built earlier in your life.

23:15

Where to Start: Think about the things that you enjoy doing and how you can start doing more of them.

23:55

Purpose: The things that bring joy to people. You light up when your authentic self connects to something. Share yourself being the gift to the world and that’s purpose. Purpose is a powerful energy.

25:31

Your body literally starts to shut down when you stop living with purpose. People with a strong sense of purpose have a lower risk of cardiovascular events. And purpose does not have to be this big huge thing.

28:11

When you find your passion, you naturally start to surround yourself with people who are into the same things.

34:35

Mike’s Best Medicine: Being a father and my community. Two things I will never stop pouring myself into and developing.
