We all know that life doesn’t come with a manual. We don’t wake up one day and we instantly know what to do or what we want to achieve in our life. Mindsets and Dreams

Dr. V: “So tell me osric I mean, you’re, you’ve done so much great work, representing Asians out in the entertainment industry, where very few Asians are doing good work. When you said you started to dream, what did you see in Hollywood? Or did you see entertainment? As that dream at that point in your life as a teenager?”

Osric Chau: “I didn’t, when I was a teenager, I think the thing that I was struggling most with was that my life was seemingly laid out for me in a way that I was starting to understand just wasn’t right for me. Right. So like, I grew up thinking that I would graduate from high school, go to college, find a girl in college, graduate college, get a job that would turn into a career, I would have three kids by the time I was 25. Right? Like, that was the idea that was kind of laid out to me not in those terms. But like, I just grew up expecting like, Okay, I have to do this. Now I have to do that. Right? The path was laid out, I didn’t really have to make a decision..”

05:00 - 15:00

Parents

Dr. V: “Yeah. Well, I think that was such a wise thing your father told you. What did he do for a living?”

Osric Chau: “Now I find myself at odds with my dad, because our values are so opposite, right? Like he was a computer programmer created a bunch of software and we we had this talk, like, I think it was like five years ago now, where he’s like, I’m glad you’re doing well for yourself, son, you know, I I just wished that, you know, it still makes me anxious. Like, I wish you knew when your next paycheck was going to come in. I wish you had like, you know, a proper pension and all of these things. I wish, I wish he knew all of these things. And he started describing his career, essentially, yeah, life…”

15:00 - 25:00

Path vs. Outcome

Dr. V: “So this is a very, you know, great point, because I work with clients and patients. And I tell them, you know, on the road to health and transformation, sometimes if you focus on the outcome only, you can bog you down, because you don’t know when you’re going to get that outcome. You have no idea. But if you trust in the path, if you trust that your actions will eventually lead to something, and then you allow just the actions you take every day to be the win. And you can celebrate that, then that’s something you can walk home feeling proud about. But it really sounds like you’ve enjoyed all those actions, even the ugly stuff in between.”

Osric Chau: “ You have to and that thing I will absolutely agree with like, I mean, they always say, you know, it’s the journey that counts. It’s not It’s not the goal. It’s not the destination and I have produced a movie and I’m starting a restaurant right now. There those things also remain true.”

25:00 - 33:56

Plans in the midst of a Pandemic

Dr. V: “Amazing. Speaking of out of your control, tell me about the industry now and what has happened with the Coronavirus you know, pandemic? I mean, this, you know, obviously nothing we can control. I know studios were shut down. Earlier in the year, what’s the situation now in Canada or the other studios that you know, worldwide? And what are you working on?”

Osric Chau: “ Yeah, so when when the pandemic happens, I mean, when anything bad happens? Like, obviously people are gonna immediately think of it like what does this mean for the industry? I think the creative and clever people will think, okay, the industry is changing, that means there’s going to be a new demand for something else, like how do we get in on the new thing, rather than just wait for this to blow over? So I think the the studios that are ahead of the game, have, you know, the some have started building like, Tyler Perry built this COVID free village, essentially, you know, I think Tom Cruise just came in the news a couple days ago, they’re trying to do the same Vancouver, all the studios are actually up and running, we have a lot of productions going on right now.
