Show notes

00:00 - 05:00

Past Experiences

Dr. V: “We’re gonna go into your life a little bit. I was reading for your website, you’ve gone through so much career changes. And certainly you had mentioned overcoming addiction. Can you tell me what it was? Like? How do you think all that kind of came? came into play in your life?”

Jolynn Swafford: “Wow. Well, I mean, I think the drinking started first from you know, I was traumatized by being assaulted in high school. Yeah. So I was raped and assaulted by other older high school kids. And, you know, now that at the time, I didn’t realize, but that’s really when I started drinking after that.”

05:00 - 15:00

Coaching

Dr. V: “ Particularly, with your parents, how are you? In hindsight, looking at this situation? I mean, you have so much awareness of life now. And what was the process? Like while you were going through it? And you know, being of someone that coaches others? How did you coach yourself through the situation?”

Jolynn Swafford: “ Yeah, well, I think there’s no, I guess, right way to deal with your parents dying, you know, so number one, there’s nothing that can can really prepare you for that moment. So one of the things was I would focus on my faith, and I would focus on surrender, faith and good in gratitude. Yeah.Because anything outside of that made me feel bad, made me feel worse. And so with my dad passing away, unexpectedly, it was a lot of surrendering to God’s will and saying, I have no knowing what I can control and cannot control..”

15:00 - 25:00

Status Quo

Dr. V: What would you say people’s first step would be? You know, I recognize that the people, some people who’ve transformed the quickest are the ones that have gone through, you know, a very, very horrific life event or something has to happen. But for people who, that’s not the case, and they’re just kind of doing the status quo thing, it could be a while before they can recognize, oh, I can shift and I can change things. How do you suppose we reach those people that that might not just, you know, might not have to, like lose a limb or lose a family member or get some disease?”

Jolynn Swafford: “people are not gonna like what I have to say. But the truth is, if you’ve had a quite uneventful, neutralized life, then you aren’t probably close enough to your God calling.”

25:00 - 39:00

Faith

Dr. V: “And what a great exercise I believe. Brian Tracy introduced that that eulogy exercise where, where you envision yourself walking into your own funeral and then asking, you know, what would your friends say about you? What would a service organization say about you? How do you want to be remembered? So, that’s so important to help us focus our intentions as to how we live day to day. “

Jolynn Swafford: “ Yes, yes. And I would also add all of that, one of the biggest shifts for me was, in my darkest phases of alcoholism, I experienced several years of atheism, where I didn’t I was completely indifferent. I thought I was running the show, there was nothing bigger than me. No universe, no Buddha, no, Allah. No, no, Jesus, no, nothing like it was I was the God….”
