EPISODE 41: How to Make a Powerful Life Pivot and Amplify Your Voice through Power of Podcasts

Episode 41: Erik Cabral

Do you still remember what it felt like to take the leap and start your own business?

I still got those ‘butterflies in the stomach’–but it connects to a different feeling now. From nervousness about what might be to excitement about what could be more.

When I wrote the first page of my book Thrive State, I had my doubts. But I kept as a reminder of my ‘WHY’ the feeling when I realized I’m a well-qualified doctor yet I’m overweight, hypertensive, and diabetic. Fulfillment and happiness are not always straight A’s and binary formulas.

One of the reasons why I’m excited about this episode of the Thrive State podcast with serial entrepreneur, Erik Cabral, is because he’s such an inspiring example for everyone wanting to take a turn in a very pivotal part of their life.

At first look, we see people lost their jobs or have taken big pay cuts. But for those who weren’t happy with where they were at, but this has only accelerated the process and for sure, they want to know what to do next.

Erik was living the daily grind, #cubelife. But he decided to left corporate America after 20+ years and jumped head first into real estate investing in order to achieve financial freedom and pursue his passion.

Never looking back, never regretting a single decision he’s made. How?

Because despite the uncertainty (well, not at all with calculated risk), Erik is still sure it’s way better that living the same day over and over.

Now, he’s a partner in the Renault Winery & Resort and founder of the media agency, On Air Brands; the innovative networking and podcasting event PodMAX; the real estate investment company Mindado Investment Group; host, co-host, and producer on multiple shows such as the Entrepreneurs Circle, Capital Hacking, On Air Brands LIVE, Cashflow Ninja, the Hidden Entrepreneur, and True MultiFamily. And Erik spends much of his time helping others grow their businesses, brands, and reputation and sharing his decades of experience leverage the power within the podcasting platform.

Erik is such a powerful example that it’s not about figuring an exact formula. It’s really in building networks and continuously educating and surrounding ourselves with the right people that can help change the trajectory of our chosen business and lives.

Show notes

8:48

Throughout my discovery of the real estate game, I didn’t feel 1000% I’m doing it for my family. That’s usually an excuse that we use, but it’s not the real driver. I realized my real purpose has been to make the world a better place, one MC at a time.

11:03

Get accustomed to risk. Learn to take calculated risks and do your due diligence in life, not just in investing. Map out what a plan and a strategy would be. Build a safety net, or a runway, so if I fail, I could always go back.

11:34

I’ve had job offers from companies telling me to stop but it has become greater than, than me. It becomes life’s purpose and doing something bigger.

12:50

Building a personal brand: Put enough content out there. So people are aware that you exist and they want to know you. Once they know you, they want to or they need to like you. People only work with people that they trust.

15:48

There’s no exact formula, but just start. You can take simple steps like creating a blog and putting those on your LinkedIn profile. You can simply use the ones that everybody uses. The challenge is that people have to understand and know that consistency is really the key to success. Create a system for yourself.

18:14

Making your podcast stand out: This is always a changing answer because the world is evolving. Share your story and tell them how you can help them. Podcast is people.

20:42

Knowing you’re catching on: Give it 12 months to start to notice if there’s traction, like the rubber’s starting to meet the road. Commit 12 months to a podcast and commit wholeheartedly. Don’t just record and then not talk about it to anyone.

23:51

Having a podcast—a stage for my audience—gave me opportunities and experiences of having a conversation with someone that I normally wouldn’t have a conversation with.

26:37

Striking work-life balance: It’s always learning, growing, and evolving. It is never truly 50-50. Be a family man with a business and not a businessman with a family (John Roman).

32:20

Eric’s best medicine: Take the leap of faith. Trust in yourself and trust in the people around you to love and support what you’re doing. Let’s take care of ourselves, especially in this day and age, because that is critical for us to help others.
