EPISODE 21: Light Em Up – The Performance Benefits of Red Light Therapy

Episode 21: Wes Pfiffner

Stay young, have an efficient body, and thrive with immense energy at no cost at all.

What could give you that? Well, the most abundant energy in the universe: LIGHT. With just the natural light from the sun, so abundant around us for as long as our only planet earth stays!

Light, as one source of life less understood by many, benefits human beings in many ways, aside from being a source of vitamin D. It controls our sleep and wake cycle (circadian rhythm), body heat to detoxify the body through sweat, stimulating energy production in our muscle cells for optimal functioning of the entire body systems, increasing blood flow for better distribution of what the body needs, to list some so far known through lots of research studies to date.

It is really awesome that these studies are being brought to the fore for free by people or entities like Joovv led by Wes Pfiffner, while light therapies in aesthetics centers used to cost hundreds of dollars, if not thousands!

But too bad for so long a time now, we are missing these amazing gifts of natural light for all the buzz of this modern lifestyle. We have been staying indoors and away from sunlight for whatever reason 90% of our day. Especially during Covid!

So while staying indoors during this raging pandemic and trading off these benefits, make use of the time to be enLIGHTened in some other way and listen to this episode with Wes Pfiffner!

Show notes

  • Light as a universal source: It powers the entire universe. Everything starts with light. It helps us see; it illuminates. It is energy, a wave.
  • White light is energy. The sun is the original source of light. It is radiating gamma rays, UV rays, all the spectrum of visible colors (rainbow colors) merged into what we see as white light, with their own specific wavelengths.
  • Each wavelength has different effects on the body and is still in the process of further discovery. UVA and UVB rays predominantly stimulate the body’s production of vitamin D.
  • Blue light is responsible for stimulating cortisol which greatly affects the body’s circadian rhythm (the body’s cycle of sleep and waking up, etc) and suppresses melatonin.
  • Green light mitigates migraine, headaches and so on.
  • Red light is a specific band in it stimulates cellular energy, specifically the mitochondria—the powerhouse responsible for creating energy for the muscles.
  • Profound Benefits of Red light: increases blood flow; stimulates body production of vitamin D and hair growth, heat chakra; boosts the natural inflammatory process taking place during catabolism and anabolism, for more speedy and better recovery.
  • Red light and Skin Health: Pumps the production of dermal fibroblast and collagen. Collagen is a tissue responsible for healthy, good-looking skin. Helps a lot in reducing wrinkle formation lines in the skin and scar formation. Red light helps increase blood flow which is very important to skin health.
  • Red light and Performance: Red light therapy are being developed for purposes of greater performance, as well as for quicker recovery from injuries. As red light boosts energy, it paves way for more efficient and better performances in sports.
  • Red light and Sleep: It induces better and deeper sleep. It reduces cortisol, to give way to the production of other hormones such as melatonin.
  • Red light triggers the mechanism in our body that kicks off the production of more nitric oxide that increases the volume of blood flow. And the more blood circulating, the more nutrients and oxygen are distributed throughout the body.
  • Wes Pfiffner’s Best Medicine: Self-discovery. Learning my body and what’s good for my body. No matter how many types of diet out there, just get in tune with your body, and learning to discover what works for you, and what benefits you, not only physically but also emotionally. Self-discovery is one of the most powerful medicines that you can do.
