EPISODE 100: Gamechanging Diagnostic Test for Health, Longevity, and Performance

Episode 100: Ryan Smith

The use of data and algorithm has taken over many aspects of how the world do things. In this digital age, when data can be stored and processed much more efficiently, we saw how this is used in our daily lives. But health and longevity??

Who would have thought that algorithms could be used in health???

Built by scientists and supported by real evidence and real research, TruDiagnostics is now trailblazing epigenetics and genetic modification data for use in the health and aging industry.

Ryan Smith, TruDiagnostics co-founder and brilliant researcher, talks about their game changing work in diagnostic testing. They are leveraging data generated in the largest private epigenetic database in the world to create tools that look at specific methylation to detect changing disease risk.

Learning that information about our daily lives is actually encoded in our gene expression changes the game for health and testing. Algorithms now shift the way people practice medicine.
It is still a very unfamiliar field for many practitioners. But good news, loads and loads of scientific information are becoming more accessible, either through TruDiagnostics and other players. And they are joining conversations to answer common questions from the public like, ‘is methylation good for you?’, ‘is it reversible?’, mainstreaming the idea to the public’s knowledge and interest.

TruDiagnostics is such an awesome group that we share a common mission: To help educate the public about how habits and choices can change us at the epigenetic level, and how we have more control over their own health.

Find out about the future of diagnostic testing and predicting health outcomes with TruDiagnostic’s game-changing science and technology for health, longevity and performance.

Epigenetics and DNA Methylation: Changing the biggest predictor of negative health outcomes

  • DNA methylation is basically the switching on and off of gene expression expression. This can be used robustly in diagnostics.
  • We have genes in our DNA that based on how we live our lives and the things that we take in (that makes up our cellular environment) then put marks on our DNA (methylation tags) that basically silence some genes.

Methylation and Biological Age Testing

  • DNA Methylation is now used for quantifying the body’s aging process.
  • Biological age from methylation tests predicts longevity, aging and disease more accurately.
  • People who have been found to have lower biological age tend to develop less negative health outcomes while those that are older in terms of biological age tend to develop negative health outcomes more frequently and earlier.

17:05

Methylation and Anti-Aging

  • Algorithms shift the way we practice medicine. Information about our daily lives is actually encoded in our gene expression.

18:53

Trauma can also be also passed on through epigenetics.

  • Transgenerational Epigenetic Transference shows how traumatic events can change the environment of our cells to basically protect generations and how it gets passed down.
  • Within our conscious control, we can slowly start to break free of some of that imprinting.

21:37

Is de-methylation possible: In aging, yes. Some things are modifiable, some are not.

23:09

Epigenetics and Stress

  • Stress is the number one driver of CTRA and telomere shortening which is a marker for aging and disease.

27:09

Is methylation bad for you: There are genes that we would want to be suppressed and not. It’s not about good or bad. The more important thing is the idea and ability to methylate and the methylation factors.

Ryan’s Best Medicine: Mindfulness.
