Ever introspected why do you feel offended or whatever it is that you feel when people point out your weakness, inadequacies?
It traces back to the great traits of human beings that aid it survival.
The brain is built for survival. If people point out my inadequacies, I’m gonna feel vulnerable—not enough, unloved. And if I’m not lovable, I won’t be safe and might get thrown out of the tribe. So ultimately, the brain is looking for safety all the time.
Fast forward today: The race to survival is not the same.
Food, shelter and all the comforts are right there. But why does your body still feel unsafe? In constant state of worry? Elevated stress? And thus, lower immune?
What you’re looking for is a restoration of your relationship with yourself. You consistently look outside of yourself for affirmation: You look at your salary. You look at your friends. You look at everything going on around you for approval not realizing that when your relationship with yourself is restored, it doesn’t really matter what goes on outside of you. And that’s relationship is the single most important connection that needs nurturing to battle today’s challenges not only to mental health, but also physical health.
