EPISODE 18: Leading Yourself to Success While Having Fun

Episode 18: Jason Goldberg

Have you ever heard this saying?

“You don’t have to think about everything you think about.”

It sounds great in theory, yeah? But when it comes down to letting the small stuff roll off your back, it’s difficult to actually do…

But what if there was an easy way to learn how to actually not think about, AND BELIEVE, everything you think about? Like how to let the small thoughts go and stop them from flooding your head?

In this latest podcast, Dr. Kien Vuu and I are having some serious talk: how to not take all your thoughts seriously!

Imagine this: you’re running around trying to chase and catch each and every snowflake that is your thoughts (one of the many thousands that pass through our mind each day) in your vain attempt to put them down and clear your horizon but ends up sending them back again into the air because your feet just mess them up.

You picture yourself looking like crazy, eh?

And so this teaches us that only by being still, letting the snow fall down to the ground (instead of chasing each flake), will you see a clear view of your surroundings, of what’s in front of you in the moment. It’s what nature taught us about gravity and the way it works—how the system works.

What does that look like in practice?

How can YOU actually start filling your day with joy and happiness instead… no matter what?

Think less. Or better yet, don’t, when you’re in that snowglobe blizzard moment.

In my experience—childhood traumas and struggles—cultivated an empathy and humor and that led me to discover that joy activation is my superpower. And so I made it my mission to leave people with at least 5% more joy than I found them and sharing this practice is just one of the many ways I’m doing that now.

Kien and I will reveal some of his most effective practices to navigate the discourse around ego vs service, serious vs sincere, imposter syndrome ‘loosening the grip’ and gaining back the energy. This mindfulness practice and philosophy is just pure gold these days. So make sure to catch me in this Thrive State podcast episode. Really light, fun yet serious-talk nuggets of wisdom and a very special surprise for you!

Show notes

05:13

The beauty of humor and storytelling: Bringing depth and fun together. Not trivializing people’s traumas and struggles but subverts the inner critic and the ego and go around the fears to be more open and receptive to actually experience transformation.

06:26

The Shift: Without the tools, understanding, language, and model of what it looks like to navigate these heavy and uncomfortable experiences, you will default to sadness and despair. Sometimes we let the world dump into us and forget who we are.

10:13

A weight-loss journey: There’s no place you’d get where you’re done with personal growth. It’s a constant work.

14:14

If I understand the way the system works, I can use my thoughts more effectively.

16:12

You don’t have to believe everything you think. You don’t have to think about everything you think about. They are literally all they are. Crush your negative thoughts with a snowglobe.

20:27

Things you can do real-time as you wait to settle that snowglobe: breathwork, meditation, progressive muscle tension techniques—everything that gets into your body. AND a trigger to remind how the system works. Allow your thoughts and feelings to be without being a nuisance.

24:56

To leave everybody I meet with at least 5% more joy than I found them: It doesn’t matter what the noun or title is as long as I can bring the fundamental element of joy activation in what I do.

29:39

You’re seeing me in my zone of genius—the best version of me—but there are plenty of moments that you’ll not see this version of me because the entirety of the human experience is everything. You can’t numb the piece that feels negatively because that will numb also the piece that you’re seeing now.

35:04

Serious vs Sincere. There’s a way to approach life with a level of sincerity, devotion, commitment, and focus that doesn’t have to be gripping of things so tight. Just be willing to loosen your grip. The more you loosen your grip, the more energy you gain back to actually do the work you’re meant to do.

37:23

Ego vs Service. Be motivated by reaching or leaving an impact. But it is not a bad thing to be motivated by ego as long as that ego has a by-product of service.

39:26

Imposter Syndrome: It’s a natural part of life. On the one side, the key to not having an imposter syndrome is to not be an imposter. On the other side, you are an imposter because you don’t have all the stuff figured out and you are learning new stuff all the time. We evolve and we grow.

44:04

Jason’s Best Medicine: Community is immunity. Self-love—grace and compassion for myself. The more I can be compassionate, loving, and graceful with myself and my own process, the more my experience of life as peaceful and blissful.
