A study published in the peer-reviewed journal PLOS ONE titled “Genetic Factors Are Not the Major Causes of Chronic Diseases” detailed how only a small percentage of our multiple epidemics of chronic diseases are caused by genetics.

The meta-analysis points to the role of our environment/exposures in determining how our genes are expressed. And the biggest health determinants being things like environmental pollutants, hazardous consumption of alcohol and tobacco, and even the state of our microbiome.

Overall, it’s diet that appears to be the largest tangible health determinant. A massive meta-analysis published in The Lancet in 2019 titled “Health effects of dietary risks in 195 countries” examined the links between poor diet and the skyrocketing rates of chronic diseases in our world today. The scientists determined that poor diet kills 11 MILLION people around the world every year.

But, at the core of all of this is our CHOICES. Our beliefs about ourselves and the world around us are the catalyst for the decisions we make. And, as Dr. Kien Vuu is sharing, if we’re unwell in our state of consciousness, we will very likely be unwell in the outcomes with our physical and mental health.

Although this message could apply to anyone, I am speaking directly to the men out there. You fathers, brothers, sons, leaders, and sacred partners. The world will test us… physically, emotionally, mentally, financially, and spiritually. It may come in the form of a job loss, an abusive relationship, an accident, disease, the list could go on… life has a way of bringing stormy seas.

But in the middle of that storm, those that rely on us… those that we provide for, those that we protect, and those who’s our purpose is to serve and needs us to be the lighthouse.

It is the one that can stayed centered, consistent with their purpose, unshakable in their conviction in the midst of the most raging storm… the one that continues to be that light of hope while others are being rocked at sea… is the one will provide that safety for others come to back to.
